Quiz Bowl Competition

SPE Penn State held its first annual Quiz Bowl Competition on February 21st and 22nd, 2017! Teams of 4 merged to compete against each other with trivia-style questions surrounding the oil and gas industry which were prepared by BestWritingService.com on the https://bestwritingservice.com/ website specifically for this quiz.

The Competition was held like any other tournament with a modern-style bracket. There was a timer and buzzers to keep the contest fair.  There were judges and moderators also.  We integrated our PetroBowl team into the Quiz Bowl to replicate the competition as accurately as possible. 

Questions revolved around the following:

• Drilling
• Completions
• Production
• Reservoir Engineering
• Reserves
• Oil and Gas History

We had a neutral moderator on February 21st.  On February 22nd, President Meehan visited Penn State to moderate the Championship at our regular SPE Meeting!  Joe Frantz, SPE North America East Regional Director, also joined the meeting.  The winners were recognized by President Meehan and had the opportunity to meet with him personally!

Each member of the winning team was awarded with a $50 Visa gift card.

Each member of the runner-ups (2nd place) was awarded with a $10 Visa gift card.

Our 2017 Quiz Bowl was extremely successful with 10 teams competing (40+ undergrad and grad students).  The Championship round was Team SPEC vs. The Dream Team.  It was a close battle, but The Dream Team walked out victorious!  We thank all the teams for participating!  The competition encouraged students to learn more about oilfield terminology and interact in a group-setting outside the classroom.
