Help Us Celebrate National Engineers Week!

Engineer the Future

Feb. 20-21, 2015

Pittsburgh has long been at the core of engineering innovation with iconic bridges, environmentally friendly construction, and modern building design. Engineer the Future, held in observance of National Engineers Week, celebrates the science of engineering and the region’s achievements and advances in architecture, building, and construction.

This two-day event features presentations, hands-on activities, and science demonstrations that are designed to inspire young people to explore engineering.

engineers weekOn Friday, high school students are invited to Engineer the Future Career Café, a fast-paced introduction to chemistry careers in an informal setting. They can check out dazzling demos, enjoy café-style beverages, and chat with industry professionals. Limited capacity, pre-registration required.

Get your organization involved!

Hosting an event table during Engineer the Future provides an ideal forum to promote science and engineering, as well as showcase the work of your society, agency, company, or university. Through hands-on activities and handouts for the visitors, your organization can help us explain who engineers are, what engineers do, and why engineering is a part of everyday life.

There is no fee to participate in National Engineers Week at Carnegie Science Center. Each participating organization will be responsible for planning and organizing their event table activities and for staffing it with volunteers.

Carnegie Science Center will provide:

  • One six-foot clothed event table for your display or activity
  • A sign with your organization’s name
  • A National Engineers Week T-shirt for each volunteer, which will serve as general admission to the Science Center during the two-day event

Your organization must provide:

  • AV Equipment
  • Extension cords, power strips, and easels
  • Volunteers and all program materials related to your hands-on activity or demonstration

Keep in mind, all event tables must be staffed by volunteers during shift hours. Volunteers generally work a 3-4 hour shift. All volunteers are to report to the Registration Area (located near the first floor restrooms) before their shift to register and receive their National Engineers Week T-shirt.
