William Chastka, Engineer at UGI Utilities and PSU PNGE Alum, and Alex Bronner, 2011 PSU EBF and 2018 Smeal MBA Alum, are coming to campus to provide resources to aid in the job search during this current oil and gas downturn.  They will be presenting software and identifying skills for students to leverage in order to make students more marketable.

Since Will and Alex will be talking about the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, we have decided to partner up with Penn State Energy Marketing Association (PSEMA) to also fill the room with EBF students.  Feel free to join us!  We will have food!

Quiz Bowl w/ 2016 SPEI President Meehan | Feb. 21-22

SPE Penn State will be holding its first Quiz Bowl!  Teams of 4 will merge to compete against each other with trivia-style questions surrounding the oil and gas industry.  Ideally, we want the teams to be fair, so our official PetroBowl team is not permitted to compete.  You can recommend who you want to be your teammate, but we will have the ultimate choice over picking teams.

This will be held like any other tournament with a modern-style bracket.  There will be a timer and buzzers to keep the contest fair. Interest forms will be posted here and sent out via email soon!

Questions will be based on:

  • Drilling
  • Completions
  • Production
  • Reservoir Engineering
  • Reserves
  • Oil and Gas History

Dr. Morgan will be the moderator for February 21st.  On February 22nd, President Meehan is visiting Penn State to moderate the Championship at our regular SPE Meeting!  The winners will be recognized by President Meehan!

Each member of the winning team will be awarded with a $50 gift card to a place of their choice.

Each member of the runner-ups (2nd place) will be awarded with a $10 gift card to a place of their choice.

Carnegie Science Center: Engineer The Future 2017 (STEM) | Feb. 25

Pittsburgh has long been at the core of engineering innovation with iconic bridges, environmentally friendly construction, and modern building design. Engineer the Future, held in observance of National Engineers Week, celebrates the science of engineering and the region’s achievements and advances in architecture, building, and construction. This event features presentations, hands-on activities, and science demonstrations that are designed to inspire young people to explore engineering.

Each year we have our SPE Members travel to Pittsburgh to interact with younger students who aspire to be engineers.  We teach them about the science behind safe horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

Stay tuned for interest form via email!  This event is sponsored by EQT.
